Snaps from the past few weeks...

Kind of went on a B&W kick for these, also tried a new crop for the landscapes, works for some, others I kept the 8x10 crop.

A lot of these are from MA, Kate and I have been doing a lot of trips up there to escape the city once in a while…

Some exciting things happening in the next month or so. A few awards related to the Homies that I will announce soon and two projects that I am really excited to get up on the website as soon as possible….

Artists Wanted, Exposure 2011...

In other good news I won the People & Portrait category for this year's Artists Wanted, Exposure 2011 contest. I am very excited and flattered. There are several other contests I've entered in the last few months that I hope to place in as well. Here's to a good 2012.

HHS contender...

Hey Hot Shots posted my Homies series on their blog as a contender for the upcoming 2012 First Edition Hot Shots. It is not a guarantee that I will place in the top 5 but it is a good look either way. I appreciate them posting the work and giving the series some attention. Keeping my fingers crossed that I get picked!

Selectism...

Culture Blog Selectism did a little post on Homies…

Flavorpill's Flavorwire…

Thanks to Flavorpill and Flavorwire for doing a post on my Homies series.

Now I at least have a semi excuse...

"The truth is no portrait of substance has people smiling. Look at the history of painting, Rembrandt, Titian, Goya, Velasquez, Sargent, Vermeer, DaVinci, etc., the subjects gaze to the viewer is neutral at best, neither inviting nor forbidding. It is there for the viewer to see and feel. Smiling is like much of American popular culture, superficial and misleading. It is part of our vernacular, but it should be expunged in photographs."

Milk Gallery Underground show in NYC opening 11.17.11

I have two prints from the Homies series in a group show at the Milk gallery. I will not be in town for the opening reception but I'm sure it will be a good time. Two friends, Ryan Bailey and Mark Hartman, have work in the show. More info on the flyers below.

Time.com's LightBox

500 photographers

Just got the news that I have been featured on  Pieter Wisse's blog 500 Photographers. It is a pretty amazing list and I am very flattered to be included. This blog was included in Life's best photo blogs of 2011 along with Pete Brook's blog Prison Photography and Jörg M. Colberg's blog Conscientious that I was featured on previously.

Thank you Pieter!
